The name Tony Lama has become synonymous with cowboy boots. Not only does this company make a wide array of cowboy boots for men they have now introduced a range of women’s boots as well. Not only do they come in wide range of styles but also in a wide array of materials and colours.
It is hard to think that the Tony Lama cowboy boots you see wearing today were originally designed to be worn my members of the US Cavalry at the turn of the 20th Century. It was whilst as a member of the US Cavalry Tony realized how important good fitting boots were to those soldiers. This is why he dedicate so much time to making boots that not only fitted well but were comfortable to wear.

Although Tony originally started his business repairing boots created for the cavalry soldiers. He soon had others appearing on his doorstep carrying their own hides and asking him to create a pair of custom made boots for them instead. When the business first started out it was just Tony and one other person who were making on average 20 pairs of custom cowboy boots during their first year of trading.
It was when the army decided to get rid of their cavalry that Tony Lama then decided he would concentrate his effort and time into making great quality cowboy boots for the general public instead. Because demand in the 1930’s began to increase so methods were developed by Tony which helped to increase the number of boots he could produce without the quality of them being compromised.
It is hard to believe that it wasn’t until 1961 that the business moved to larger premises and so this meant the company could now manufacture 750 pairs of boots each day. This is a considerably long way from where Tony originally started making just 20 pairs of cowboy boots in a year.
Although the founder of the Tony Lama company passed away in 1974 the traditions that he held dear are being continued by his sons and daughters. Not only are these boots still handcrafted but the quality of the boots remains high.
The company although the boots still carry the name of Tony Lama is now owned by the Justin Boot family. Although they were once competitors in this market today these two companies are the ones that set the mark with regard to the craftsmanship and quality of cowboy boots the world over.
